BACKGROUND & HISTORY
Twenty-four years ago, Herc Holladay, a promising sergeant with the US Air Force, was stationed at Kadena Air Base. He had committed his life to the military, traveling from country to country, base to base–anywhere orders or promotions lead him. This meant the very handsome Herc had very little time for dating and was honestly never too successful at relationships. He had a few flings, but Herc’s priority was his job, working round the clock to make sure planes were up in the air and everyone was ready to support any task thrown their way. Herc quickly moved through the ranks, adding ribbons and wings to his uniform, but something felt wrong, something was missing from his life.
Spending his time off exploring Okinawa, Herc noticed a small orphanage overrun with children. Every so often, he brought snacks and sweet drinks for the kids playing in the yard. This soon became a weekly habit, with Herc eventually going inside the orphanage to chat with the woman who ran the place, checking in with everyone, and playing with the kids. It was a few months later when Herc stepped into the orphanage for his weekly visit and found a new child–a very adorable two year old girl with a face that lit up the room. The girl had been dropped off at the orphanage with very little information. Her name was Song and she was born in China. Nothing more was known about her–what happened to her parents, if she had any other family, or how she even wound up in Japan. Herc visited the little girl every day after that, quickly falling in love with her bright smile and the happiness that seemed to emanate naturally from her. When his superiors gave Herc orders to move back to the States, he knew what he needed to do. He adopted Song and the two have been inseparable since.
Song Holladay is good fortune personified. She spent very little time at the orphanage before her adoption and has excelled at everything she’s put effort into (served on various student councils, became editor of yearbook staffs, captain of her volleyball team, etc. etc.). Always having a love for dance, Herc made sure to sign Song up for lessons no matter where they happened to be stationed at the time. She landed leads in dance recitals in every city she lived. After graduating from high school, Song was offered a full scholarship to a dance academy in California where she excelled and performed with many dance groups. She’s been the backup dancer for a few musical acts in Hollywood and has appeared in several music videos.
Since she was raised by an American man, Song knows zero Chinese and very little about her culture. She actually has almost no interest in finding out about her parents or why she was put up for adoption. Her dad is Herc Holladay and no one else can take his place in her eyes. She adores her father and everything he’s done for her, which is why after Herc retired from the military and settled down off the coast of Maine, Song decided to move closer to her dad. She’s newly arrived in Siren Cove, Herc living just outside of the city, and is beyond ecstatic to meet new people.
PERSONALITY
Song has a very outgoing and optimistic personality. She’s smiling most of the time and finds the good in sticky situations. She’s realistic, of course, and knows there’s bad, bad things, but Song believes in good fortune for everyone. Even though she’s miraculously experienced very few negative events in her life, she is aware that bad things happen to good people and chooses to believe that good in the world outweighs the bad. She has an oddly infectious personality, bringing a tinge of happiness to anyone who interacts with her. Song has a way of making everyone comfortable when she’s around them due to her unknown witchy powers. She’s smart, enthusiastic, quick witted, and makes friends almost too easily. She’s the type of person that will make you feel like you’re the only person in the room when she speaks with you.
OPINION OF THE RIVALRY
Once Song learns about it, she won’t be too happy. She wants peace and harmony and gets frustrated with conflict. She will not take sides, instead thinking both are being unreasonable.
LIFESTYLE
Song has moved to Siren Cove with no job, but that doesn’t worry her. She’s confident she’ll land a job quickly and get into the swing of things rather quickly. With some money from her father, she’s rented a nice two bedroom apartment in town. She’s excited to check out the dance studio in town, eager to start up lessons as soon as she can. Until she finds a job, she’ll be meeting as many people as she can.
POWERS & ABILITIES
Unknown to herself or Herc, Song is actually a witch. Her family’s powers are connected to Fenghuang, the Chinese phoenix. Fenghuang represents the union of yin and yang and symbolizes peace, harmony, and good fortune. The bird is believed to have a beautiful voice and an appreciation of human music, explaining why Song loves to dance. Because of this history, Song has a natural ability to bring happiness and good fortune to others. If she knew about her history and powers, she would be able to directly channel feelings of calm, happiness, and peace into others. Because she’s unaware, she automatically exudes these feelings. They aren’t strong–mostly her powers effect her own fortune. But she is able to unknowingly infuse a little happiness into others. If she gets over-enthusiastic, these feelings will become more powerful.
Song will have no idea that magic exists in the world. What a fun surprise!
